FT Explorer ButtonExplorer Package

What is it? 

A self-guided tour of the Great Lakes Aquarium exhibits.  Estimated time required: 1 1/2 hours.
Explorer ticket includes:

  • General admission to The Aquarium
  • Group greeting from our Education Department
  • Secure closet to store coats, lunches, backpacks, etc.
  • Age-appropriate exhibit scavenger hunt
  • Lunch space (please request during registration)
  • Daily interpretive programs, animal feedings, and more…
  • Free parking for group vehicles (bus, van, or cars)

Cost:

  • Students in preschool – grade 8: $4/each (Jan. 2015 Rate becomes $5)
  • Students in grades 9-12: $6/each (Jan. 2015 Rate becomes $5)
  • For every 5 students in preschool-grade 8, you receive 1 free adult chaperone admission.
  • For every 10 students in grades 9-12, you receive 1 free adult chaperone admission.
  • Teachers are free and not included in the chaperone ratio.
  • Additional adult chaperones: $6/each (Jan. 2015 Rate becomes $5)

10:00 Group arrives and enjoys welcome from Aquarium staff

Bins are available to store bag lunches and personal items during visit.

10:15 Group divides into small clusters, with chaperones in each, to explore!

Attending an interpretive program at Isle Royale

FT Dive in DeeperThe Dive in Deeper Package

What is it?

This package offers both the self-guided tour of the Great Lakes Aquarium exhibits and a one-hour class with and Aquarium educator.  Minimum time required: 2 hours and 30 minutes. Classes are offered at 9:00am, 10:15am, 11:30, 12:45, 2:00, 3:15, and 4:30 Monday- Friday. See a list of our class offerings here.

Dive in Deeper ticket includes:

  • General admission to The Aquarium
  • Group greeting from our Education Department
  • Secure closet to store coats, lunches, backpacks, etc.
  • Age-appropriate exhibit scavenger hunt
  • Lunch space (please request during registration)
  • Daily interpretive programs, animal feedings, and more…
  • Free parking for group vehicles (bus, van, or cars)
  • One- or two-hour age-appropriate class with our staff

Cost: Explorer costs plus an additional $2/student

Example Schedule (times and activities vary):

10:00 Group arrives and enjoys welcome from Aquarium staff.

Bins are available to store bag lunches and personal items during your visit.

10:15 Group attends class with an Aquarium educator.

If there are more than 25 students, the students will be broken up into smaller groups to rotate through class with the Aquarium educator.

11:15 Group divides into small clusters, with chaperones in each, to explore!

The same great exploring happens for Dive in Deeper participants, too!  From the Baptism River to Otter Cove, discoveries wait around every corner.

12:15 Group gathers in the lobby to enjoy their bag lunches and prepare for departure.

FT Field ClassField Class Package

What is it?

The field class package offers the self-guided exploration of the Aquarium plus a 2-hour class on location at Brighton Beach or Enger Park . This program requires the school to provide transportation for students from the Aquarium to the field location. To see our field class options, visit our class offerings page here.

Cost: Explorer costs plus an additional $4/student

Example Schedule (times and activities vary):

10:00 Group arrives on location and meets up with Aquarium educator for a welcome.

Students are encouraged to bring rain gear and extra layers to prepare for the weather.

10:15 Group enjoys 2-hour field class with an Aquarium educator.

If there are more than 25 students, multiple educators will be on-site or a rotation schedule will be determined.

12:15 Group enjoys their lunches on location before traveling to the Aquarium.

1:00 Group arrives at the Aquarium and breaks into chaperone-led small groups to explore the exhibits.

2:00 Group gathers in the lobby to prepare for departure.

FT Fish N Ships

Fish N Ships Package

What is it?

The Fish N Ships package gives your students the ultimate waterfront experience! Take an hour and forty-five minute cruise and visit the Aquarium. This package is only available to K-12 accredited schools between the dates of  September 2-October 15, 2014 and May 1-June 13 and.

Cost: 

  • Students in preschool – grade 12: $10/each
  • Teachers and Bus Drivers are free.
  • Additional adult chaperons: $10/each

9:10 Board the Vista Star

9:25 Depart on the Vista Star

Students are encouraged to bring a sweater and rain gear to prepare for the weather.

11:10 Return on the Vista Star

11:15 Students walk to the Aquarium

11:30 Students enjoy bag lunches in Aquarium lobby or in Bayfront Park

12:00 Group welcome in Aquarium lobby

12:15 Students explore the Aquarium in chaperone-led small groups

Bus funds available for field trips!

Great Lakes Aquarium is pleased to offer transportation grants for schools. Awards of up to $200 will be given to schools that meet the eligibility requirements. Learn more here.
