New and innovative changes are being planned and implemented to engage more people in learning about the Great Lakes and freshwater resources. Those exciting plans include the Discovery Center, a bright, spacious education center with three new classrooms, a teacher resource center and a distance-learning studio.
The Discovery Center will double our current classroom space, allowing Great Lakes Aquarium to grow its popular educational programming. Learn more here.
Great Lakes Aquarium has received $125,000 in gifts and challenge grants from the Minnesota Power Foundation to make this vision a reality. The Aquarium has met its $50,000 challenge for 2013 and 2014. Phase I of the project (demolition of the cafeteria) is complete.
The project costs are estimated to be $265,000. To date, $253,000 of that goal has been raised thanks to many generous donors. Funds are still needed to complete the project.
