Monarchs: Photos from the Reserves by Kristen Pless
June 3 to September 7, 2016
Bright, beautiful monarch butterflies are covering the walls of Great Lakes Aquarium’s Merrill Lynch Fine Arts Gallery this summer in a photographic exhibit by Duluth photographer Kristen Pless.
Pless became fascinated by monarchs after her husband planted native flowers throughout their yard and the population of monarchs skyrocketed. She later received a grant to photograph wintering monarchs in central Mexico. Images on display look old because they were printed using a variety of historic photographic processes. Pless made this choice to symbolize the danger of monarchs fading away.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 11 from 1 to 4pm.
