Use the Aquarium as your classroom!

Scheduling Tip for April, May, and June:

Please be aware that this is a busy season for school trips! Remember to take your school’s end-of-year events (concerts, field days, testing) into consideration before booking with GLA to speed up the planning process.

Book your field trip

You have three options to choose from when planning a field trip to the Aquarium.

1. Explorer (self-guided exhibit exploration)

Explore ticket includes:

  • General admission to the Aquarium
  • Group greeting from our Education Department
  • Secure closet to store coats, lunches, backpacks, etc.
  • Age-appropriate exhibit scavenger hunt
  • Lunch space (please request during registration)
  • Daily interpretive programs, animal feedings, and more…
  • Free parking for group vehicles (bus, van, or cars)
  • Allow 1-2 hours to explore exhibits

Cost:

  • PreK-12 students – $5/each
  • For every 5 students you will receive 1 free chaperone.
  • Teachers/school staff are free and not included in the free chaperone ratio.
  • Additional adult chaperones: $5/each

2. Dive in Deeper (exhibit exploration + 1 hour class)

This package offers both the self-guided tour of the Great Lakes Aquarium exhibits and a one-hour class with an Aquarium educator.  Minimum time required: 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Classes are offered Monday-Friday at 9:15, 10:30, 11:45, 1:00, 2:15, 3:30, and 4:45Groups should plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to class start times to allow for group welcome and transition time.

  • One- or two-hour age-appropriate class with our staff
  • Allow at least 2 hours and 30 minutes

Cost:

  • Explorer costs ($5/student) plus an additional $2/student per class = $7/student
  • For every 5 students you will receive 1 free chaperone.
  • Teachers/school staff are free and not included in the free chaperone ratio.
  • Additional adult chaperones: $5/each

3. Fish and Ships – exhibit exploration + 1 hour 15 min harbor cruise

Give your students the ultimate waterfront experience. Book a visit to Great Lakes Aquarium and a ride on the Vista Fleet, the sightseeing boats on the Duluth waterfront!

Fish and Ships ticket includes:

  • Harbor cruise on the Duluth-Superior Harbor
  • General admission to the Aquarium
  • Group greeting from our Education Department
  • Secure closet to store coats, lunches, backpacks, etc.
  • Age-appropriate exhibit scavenger hunt
  • Lunch space (please request during registration)
  • Daily interpretive programs, animal feedings, and more…
  • Free parking for group vehicles (bus, van, or cars)
  • Allow 3-5 hours

Cost:

  • Students and adults – $10 each
  • This package does not provide free chaperones.
  • Some teachers/school staff are free.

Times: Cruise times vary; aquarium arrival and departure times vary

Dates: Offered Sept. 2 – October 15, 2014 and May 1 – June 13, 2015

Note: Your group must be affiliated with a preK-12 accredited school or home school to purchase Fish and Ships tickets.
