Wood Duck

Aix sponsa

Physical features: Medium sized duck with long broad wings and a small bill.  Males have beautiful plumage with a iridescent blue green patch on rear of wing.  Females are dull brown.

Habitat: Forested wetlands, rivers, ponds, lakes.

Diet: Seeds, acorns, fruits, invertebrates.

Fun facts: One of very few North American ducks that nest in trees.
