The sheer joy on musher Ryan Redington’s face helps explain what draws people to dog sledding. This winning shot by photographer Denise Parker is among Images of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race, a photo exhibit that goes on display January 20 and runs through March 10 at Great Lakes Aquarium.

The popular annual photo exhibit in the Merrill Lynch Fine Arts Gallery celebrates the fierce spirit of mushers and their dogs as they battle Northeast Minnesota’s harsh winter conditions to complete the grueling marathon.

Twin Cities’ photographer Kyle Krohn is the curator and mastermind of the photography show.  Krohn, who lives in the Twin Cities, has been capturing images at the Beargrease since 1990. This is the 9th year of the Beargrease photo exhibit at the Aquarium.

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, January 26, from 2 to 5pm for light refreshments and conversation with the photographers on the trail.
