Introduce Aquarium visitors to animals and ecosystems from Lake Superior and around the world!  Share your knowledge of fish, shipping, geology and many other topics with visitors of all ages in the exhibit galleries. Whichever volunteer opportunity you choose, you’ll have the ultimate insider experience at Great Lakes Aquarium!

Volunteer Positions

Exhibit Interpreter

Enrich our visitors’ experiences by providing hands-on activities and information about animals and exhibits around the aquarium.

SCUBA Diver

Dive in our 26 foot deep exhibits, hand feed 6-foot sturgeon, and help keep our exhibits clean. Must be open water certified and have completed 10 open water dives, at least two of which are cold water dives.

Lobby Greeter

Welcome visitors as they arrive to the Aquarium and answer basic questions regarding programs, locations, and animal information.

Otter Mascot

The Otter Mascot volunteer performs at special events in the community and other functions as requested by the Volunteer Coordinator.
